What?! How would Promised Land and Sugaree alienate someone?!

I don't know why Promised Land doesn't get more love. It's a great rock and roll song. I just love it when Jerry and Bob belt out the final verse together.

And if the woman in question is a 70's country/western fan, then I think a good Promised/Sugaree opener would knock her socks off. But we're talking about a 19-song set here! (Well 18, I guess, since the second NFA is a reprise).

Yeah, this is really making me think! I have always been pretty bored by Sugaree, but given her tastes, it might be just the thing.

I'm a hardcore deadhead, but I hate both those songs. If they were the first ones I heard, I would be turned off.

Wow, really, you hate them? Strong language. Oh well, to each his own ... there aren't any Dead songs I hate, though I guess I come close on Looks Like Rain. Still, they might please your girlfriend. Those are both very "accessible" songs for muggles, I think.

Yeah... you're right, I'll take back the word "hate." I should have stuck with "boring."

Promised Land doesn't bore me too bad, but it's mainly because it's so short! The actual music in that song is not so exciting, but the lyrics are pretty catchy, I'll admit.

Sugaree is actually rather interesting musically, but it tends to be at least seven or eight minutes long. If I lived the rest of my life without ever hearing it again, I would be fine with that.

I can see how Promised Land might be more accessible, but I don't see how Sugaree would be... but that doesn't mean I'm right! It's worth a shot, I guess!

Oh man, listening to those songs as played on 5/26/72, I am thinking I may have to revise my earlier sentiments.

that's why you need to listen to a woman's point of view concerning your roadtrip :)

I balk at Man Smart-Woman Smarter, but your wife may love it...that song would get all the ladies to dancin

*shudder* not wife, girlfriend! *screams in horror*

No way am I letting a limpdick rendition of a mindless pro-women anthem take any part in my girlfriend's conception of what the dead were about!

(The pro-women part I have no problem with, it's the mindlessness that makes me dislike that song)

lol...you said missus, so I ass-umed Mrs. In any case, a womans point of view on your question may go a long way.

Good luck in the *shudder* department!

Yeah that was pretty reasonable of you to assume, I was kidding about the *shudder*-ing.

"a womans point of view on your question may go a long way"

You are right - it is a lesson I have to keep re-learning.
